Holland’s “Royal City”, The Hague is the seat of Holland’s parliament and government and the residence of its royal family. The Hague is a very spacious city, with wide-open green areas and plenty of exciting modern architecture.

Amsterdam may be Holland’s commercial capital but The Hague was the country’s original first city. The Hague gives an entirely different view of Dutch culture which makes it a perfect place for a holiday.

The city has some excellent beaches nearby, with over 5 miles of coastline to explore. Nearby Scheveningen is a modern seaside resort with a long, sweeping beach, a pier, a lighthouse and an esplanade. The beach is a popular area for water sports such as kiteboarding or windsurfing.

Centerpiece of The Hague tourist attractions is the oldest parliamentary building Binnenhof, built in the 13th century.

The city is also an intriguing mixture of the ultra-modern interspeed with medieval buildings.

Visit Vredespaleis, the “Peace Palace”, built between 1907 and 1913 as a symbol of The Hague’s role in international law and order. It houses busts of several people involved in campaigning for peace throughout the world, as well as gifts from other countries.

The Hague has wider streets with no canals, giving the city a continental feel. The international courts and the UN buildings help with this cosmopolitan feel. You can also find a range of restaurants and bars inspired by cuisine from all over the world.

The Hague is also home to a lot of famous works of art. Het Paleis has an excellent display of the works of M C Escher. Gemeentemuseum includes pieces by Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondrian, as well as rotating exhibitions from other artists. Mauritshuis (the Royal Picture Gallery) is famous as the home of the Vermeer masterpiece, The Girl with the Pearl Earring.

The Louwman Automuseum is an excellent automobile museum which contains everything from classic cars and famous vehicles to motorcycles, coaches and more. With over 230 vehicles on display, it’s one of the continent’s best collections of cars and automobiles.
