The research reveals not only which destinations generate the most interest, but also which cities are experiencing the fastest growth in demand from music fans.

From cultural hotspots like Amsterdam and Paris to emerging gig destinations, these are the cities leading Europe's live music scene in 2026.

Europe's Best Cities for a Gig Getaway

1. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam wins the highest-ranking overseas destination in the study, demonstrating the city's growing appeal among British music fans looking to combine a concert with a European getaway.

Search demand for live music in the Dutch capital has risen by an impressive 114% year-on-year, helping it secure an overall score of 88.8. Home to major venues, including Ziggo Dome, AFAS Live and Johan Cruijff ArenA, Amsterdam regularly attracts some of the world's biggest tours. Harry Styles was the most searched artist associated with the city, further highlighting its popularity as a gig-tripping destination.

2. Dublin, Ireland

The birthplace of legendary acts including U2, Thin Lizzy and The Dubliners, Dublin's musical heritage remains one of its biggest draws. The Irish capital ranked second among overseas destinations, achieving a gig-tripping score of 88.4 and generating almost 40,000 searches from UK music fans.

Demand for live music in Dublin has increased by 64% year-on-year, with Olivia Dean emerging as the most searched artist associated with the city. From headline shows at Croke Park and 3Arena to traditional live music sessions across Temple Bar, Dublin offers a mix of old and new that continues to resonate with music lovers.

3. Paris, France

Search interest in Paris's live music scene has surged by almost 72% over the past year, helping the French capital secure third place in the rankings with a gig-tripping score of 85.

While Bruno Mars was the city's most searched artist, Paris itself remains a star attraction. Homegrown icons including Edith Piaf, David Guetta and Daft Punk have helped shape the city's musical reputation, while venues ranging from the historic Olympia to La Cigale ensure there's something for every type of music fan.

4. Berlin, Germany

With its reputation for underground clubs, alternative venues and a nightlife scene unlike anywhere else in Europe, Berlin remains a bucket-list destination for many music fans.

The German capital recorded 13,350 live music-related searches and a gig-tripping score of 81.3. The city is also synonymous with influential artists like David Bowie, who famously lived and recorded in Berlin, as well as electronic music pioneers including Paul Kalkbrenner and Moderat.

5. Madrid, Spain

Madrid rounds out the top five overseas destinations, highlighting southern Europe's growing popularity among music-loving travellers. The Spanish capital generated 13,940 live music-related searches and recorded a strong 48% increase in demand year-on-year.

Large-scale venues such as the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and Movistar Arena attract some of the world's biggest tours, plus the city's vibrant nightlife adds to its appeal as a concert getaway destination. Bad Bunny was the most searched artist in Madrid, helping the city secure a gig-tripping score of 77.7.

The European Cities Where Fans Could Face Less Competition for Tickets

While some cities dominate the spotlight, others remain overlooked. With lower search interest often comes less competition for tickets, making these destinations ideal for travellers looking to centre a city break around a live music event.

1. Zurich, Switzerland

Despite ranking last for live music search demand with just 2,060 searches, Zurich still attracts some of the world's biggest touring acts. Major venues such as Hallenstadion and Letzigrund Stadium regularly host international stars, meaning fans willing to look beyond Europe's busiest music hubs may find a more relaxed gig-going experience.

2. Oslo, Norway

The Norwegian capital recorded 3,150 live music searches, making it the second-least searched destination in the ranking. However, Oslo's smaller search volumes could work in music fans' favour, with less competition for tickets when major artists come to town. The city remains a key stop on many international touring circuits and offers a thriving cultural scene alongside its concerts.

3. Brussels, Belgium

Home to celebrated venues like Forest National and Ancienne Belgique, Brussels generated 4,240 searches from British music fans. Nearby, Amsterdam often steals the spotlight, but with a diverse mix of concerts and events, Belgium's capital earns its place as a wonderfully underrated destination for live music lovers.

4. Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm recorded 4,260 searches, placing it among Europe's quieter live music destinations. The city continues to attract major tours and events, but receives significantly less concert-related search demand from Brits than many rival capitals.

5. Lisbon, Portugal

With 6,300 live music-related searches, Lisbon ranks as the fifth least-searched destination. With a rapidly growing reputation for its lively festival scene, waterfront venues and summer concert calendar, the Portuguese capital offers visitors the chance to combine live music with sunshine, delicious food and coastal charm.

The Top Gig Cities in Europe

1. London, United Kingdom

With more than 727,010 live music-related searches and a gig-tripping index score of 99.6, London comfortably claims the title of Europe's favourite city for live music. Demand has soared by 170% year-on-year, making it not only the biggest gig destination in the study, but also the fastest-growing.

Whether it's a stadium spectacle at Wembley, an arena show at The O2 or a smaller gig at venues like KOKO and Brixton Academy, London's live music scene suits every taste and budget. The city's most searched artist was Bad Bunny, highlighting the growing influence of global artists on the capital's music scene.

2. Manchester, United Kingdom

Few cities can rival Manchester's musical legacy. As the birthplace of icons including Oasis, The Smiths and Joy Division, the city has long attracted visitors looking to experience one of Britain's most influential cultural hubs.

The city's vibrant heritage continues to drive demand today, with 457,480 searches and a gig-tripping index score of 96.7 placing Manchester in second place. Take That claimed the city's most searched artist, while major venues such as Co-op Live, AO Arena and the O2 Apollo continue to draw huge audiences from across the UK and beyond.

3. Glasgow, United Kingdom

Glasgow has long been known for passionate crowds, making it a key stop for touring artists for decades. The data suggests music fans remain just as enthusiastic today, with the city generating 120,740 live music searches and placing it third overall.

From legendary venues like Barrowland Ballroom to the OVO Hydro and SWG3, Glasgow offers a mix of intimate and large-scale experiences. Interestingly, Olivia Dean emerged as the city's most searched artist, suggesting demand isn't solely driven by stadium acts, but also by rising contemporary stars.

Methodology

DFDS analysed UK search demand for live music across major European destinations using a validated keyword dataset covering 12,473 search terms across 65 cities and 20 key artists touring in 2026. Analysis was based on January to June 2026 search volumes, comparing demand against the same period in 2025.

The ranking combines two key indicators: high-intent artist searches, including ticket-, tour- and concert-related terms, and generic city-level searches for concerts, gigs and live music. These signals were used to create a Gig-Tripping Index, weighted by artist demand (60%), generic live music demand (25%) and artist breadth (15%).

Cities were ranked according to their overall Gig-Tripping Index score, while year-on-year growth figures compare H1 2026 with H1 2025. Search volumes are intended as indicators of consumer interest and do not represent unique individuals, as related search terms may overlap.
