DFDS & TT-Line Q&A
More Ferry Options for Passengers
DFDS and TT-Line have entered into a space charter agreement that gives passengers more travel choices on the Baltic Sea. With this service, you can now enjoy more frequent sailings between Klaipeda and Karlshamn, as well as a new direct connection to Trelleborg. To make things simple, we’ve collected the most common questions and answers about what this change means for your journey.
DFDS and TT-Line will enter into a space charter agreement to share capacity on services from Klaipeda. This means that although a ship is operated by one operator, a share of passenger and freight space onboard is sold independently and commercially by the other operator. DFDS customers remain DFDS customers and TT-Line customers remain TT-Line customers, irrespective of which company operates the sailing that they travel on.
There is excess ferry capacity in this market. By sharing capacity, both operators can reduce the number of separate sailings but increase the total sailings offered by each operator. This brings improved choice to customers of each operator whilst reducing costs and delivering an environmental impact through the reduction in the total number of sailings.
DFDS and TT-Line will jointly provide capacity on the Klaipeda to Karlshamn route, which both operators are currently present on. Additionally, DFDS will now offer capacity on the Klaipeda to Trelleborg route for passengers and freight and on the Klaipeda to Travemünde route for freight.
No. DFDS customers will continue to book the existing Karlshamn and the new Trelleborg route via dfds.com. We will advise customers of any additional travel information.
Certain sailings on the Klaipeda – Karlshamn route will now be carried out by TT-Line vessels. TT-Line sailings will depart/ arrive at the KKT Terminal in Klaipeda. The new Trelleborg departures will operate from TT-Line’s facility at the KKT Terminal in Klaipeda and their Trelleborg terminal. We will ensure that our customers are aware of the specific arrangements for their sailing. Onboard TT-Line vessels you can expect similar facilities to those found on DFDS operated sailings.
No – during summer both companies will operate independently to provide the extra capacity required.
Overall, booked customers will see minimal impact of the change. There may be some minor amendments to sailing times or a change in terminal. Where this is the case, customers will be contacted by DFDS and alerted to the change. The TT-Line terminal in Klaipeda is a less than 10-minute drive from the DFDS facility meaning there will be minimal disruption to those affected. Passengers with cabins or onboard meals pre-booked with DFDS and now travelling with TT-Line will normally have an equivalent offered. Should there be any change, we will contact the customer.
It is intended that the space-charter will come into effect from 1 October for freight and the Karlshamn route for passengers. Trelleborg is expected to begin on 1 November for passengers. Sales will open in advance.
Up to 18 weekly sailings on Klaipeda – Karlshamn. Up to 5 weekly sailings on Klaipeda – Trelleborg.
You will remain a DFDS customer no matter what ship you sail with. If you have issues about your booking or our service, please contact us.
Check-in procedures remain very similar. If your sailing is operated by TT-Line, you will check in at the TT-Line terminal in Klaipeda or Trelleborg. Full details will be communicated to affected customers.
No. Bookings on dfds.com are not covered by the TT-Line loyalty points scheme.
As with our own vessels, customers requiring special assistance are requested to contact our customer service team to ensure any necessary arrangements are provided. TT-Line’s Marco Polo which operates one sailing each way per week on the Klaipeda – Trelleborg route has no access to the passenger accommodation without steps and may not be suitable for some customers.
As with our own vessels, customers requiring special assistance are requested to contact our customer service team to ensure any necessary arrangements are provided. If you are a DFDS customer travelling on a TT-Line operated sailing, we will ensure that your request is passed on.
Pet-friendly facilities are available on TT-Line, though they may differ slightly from DFDS ships. Any special requirements will be confirmed during the booking process.
Yes, but this depends on availability. When selecting your sailing, you can check which company is operating and choose DFDS-operated departures if you prefer.
We will ensure that customers receive full information on which operator they are travelling with and any relevant terminal information.
No. The luggage allowance and handling procedures remain the same regardless of whether you travel on DFDS or TT-Line vessels.
No. The agreement is designed to give passengers more choice and flexibility. Prices remain set by each company.
At Karlshamn and Klaipeda ports, DFDS staff will be present to deal with any queries from DFDS customers. At Trelleborg, remote support will be available. There will be no DFDS staff aboard TT-Line vessels. The situation is similar to that you may have experienced where an airline flight is operated by another carrier in that you will receive full customer service onboard regardless of operator.
