Getting to Oxford
From our port in Dover you can drive to Oxford within 2 hours and 45 minutes. The quickest route is to follow the A20 to the M20 in Folkestone. From here follow the M20 and take the exit towards the M26. Then follow the road to the M25 and at junction 16 take the M40 exit towards B'ham/Oxford. At junction 8 take the A40 exit towards Oxford/Cheltenham.
Explore the University of Oxford
The University of Oxford was founded in 1096 and is the oldest university in England. Like Cambridge, Oxford is made up of a series of colleges - 39 in total - spread across the city, each with their own unique history and character. Christ Church is one of the most notable, not only for its impressive architecture, but also because it has acted as the setting for several films, including Harry Potter. Oxford has many famous alumni such as Stephen Hawking, Oscar Wilde, J.R.R. Tolkien and Hugh Grant. But 26 British Prime Ministers have also graduated from Oxford.
Sights in Oxford
Are you planning a city trip to Oxford? Then it is definitely recommended to take a look at Radcliffe Square, the beating heart of the city. Around the square you will find several historic university buildings and in the middle is Radcliffe Camera, Oxford's university library. A favorite among photographers is the scenic Bridge of Sighs, officially known as Hertford Bridge, which connects two parts of Hertford College. Oxford is also home to many museums, including the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, where you can see collections ranging from dinosaur skeletons to beautiful minerals. The oldest university museum in the world can also be found in Oxford, the Ashmolean Museum, which was founded in 1683. Finally, the Museum of Oxford offers visitors a glimpse into the local history of the city and is also definitely worth a visit.
