The Christmas markets in Stockholm are a must see for anyone visiting the city during the holiday season. There is a festive atmosphere in the air, and you can find all sorts of Christmas-themed souvenirs and decorations. Stockholm shines brightly at Christmas – literally – with over 40 streets and squares around the centre decorated in 1 million light and strands in the shapes of angels, reindeer and mistletoe! It truly is ‘the most wonderful time of the year’!

If you're looking for something to do with your family, Stockholm has plenty of options. You can visit one of the city's many museums, take a stroll through one of the public parks, or go ice skating at one of the local rinks. Stortorget's Christmas market

Stortorget’s Christmas market takes place in the old town (Gamla Stan) and is an occasion that dates right back to 1837. Surrounded by beautiful traditional buildings, the market consists of 41 stalls selling all the goodies and gifts. Here you will be able to sample traditional flavours of Sweden, buy some to take home, and drink traditional glögg with your friends and family!

If you are looking for a unique souvenir or gift, Stortorget’s Christmas market has you covered, selling everything from caramel and candyfloss to ceramics and handicrafts to decorate your tree! There are also plenty of cafes, if you’d like to warm up from the cold and many boutique shops around if you are looking for something in particular.

It truly is a wonderful event for everyone.

Skansen

Skansen is the world’s oldens open-air museum and the park truly comes to life at Christmas time. As you walk around there will be the smell of roasted almonds and spices filling the air and you can browse the stalls selling handicrafts and unique gifts as you work up an appetite. Filled will stalls where you can try many hot dishes and drinks, it is a perfect place to socialise and embrace that Christmas spirit.

You can take a break and warm up in one of the open fires in the farmhouses and listen to stories of Christmas and legends from the past. Best of all, you are able to meet some winter animals, learn about the part they play at Christmas and if you feel creative, you can take part in some craft activities within the grounds of the castle!

Nordiska Kompaniet Make sure to have a look at Nordiska Kompaniet's Christmas display, which have been made every year since 1902! Some previous examples that Nordiska have produced are ‘A Sustainable Christmas’ and ‘Gingerbread Wonderland’, each year promising to be a magical sight.

Kungliga Slottet The Royal Palace - Kungliga Slottet – is a wealth of monarchy history and overlooks the river. There are many things to see once inside, like the Museum Tre Kronor, which explains the castle’s history and the Treasury that contains the regalia!

Kungliga Operan Founded by Gustav III in 1773, the Royal Swedish Opera is Sweden’s national theatre for ballet and opera. With beautiful architecture and performances, a visit here is a wonderful experience for the senses.
